SHE SPEAKS
'At night SHE speaks to me. SHE whispers. SHE moans. SHE screams.
SHE lives in my darkest desires. SHE is awake in my dreams…'
SHE Speaks: Messages from the Anima
What is your unconscious saying to you? What is being whispered to you from the shadowed corners of your mind? What hidden desires call to you from the depths of your soul? What does your heart cry out, buried beneath layers of conditioned belief?
In the language of Carl Jung, SHE represents the anima—the inner feminine aspect that resides within the psyche of every individual, regardless of gender. The anima is the bridge to the unconscious, the mediator between our rational mind and the depths of our emotional life. Through dreams, visions, and fantasies, the anima guides us toward a deeper integration of the conscious and unconscious, toward integration and the wholeness of the self.
SHE speaks to me of beauty, of possibilities beyond the confines of my current life. ‘SHE’, my unconscious mind, my deeper self, whispers to me of a world waiting to be discovered. An imagined world of untapped potential, where the talents and beauty I’ve failed to recognise in myself are set free to fly. For women, our unconscious is often burdened with the heavy weight of patriarchal constructs, practical concerns and others' perceived priorities. Those unseen attachments that accumulate from life, from early childhood, like shards of broken glass stored cutting in our psyche. Every step we take, every move forward, cuts us a little deeper. As adults, some paths become so painful, so scarred, that we cannot even begin to navigate them. These wounds from the past, embedded in our unconscious, haunt us, limiting us in ways we do not see nor comprehend.
From the dark places in ourselves, our 'higher selves' speak to us, crying out and urging us to acknowledge and release these accumulated burdens we have carried over space and time. SHE reminds us that we have a voice beyond our socially constructed personas, that we are infinite and capable of navigating any path. If only we dare to separate ourselves from the pain and experiences of our family lineages. SHE speaks of the divine and limitless self. Of our true beauty, abundance and untainted feminine essence, that exists beyond fear, pain, or limitation. The 'self' that is not bound by the chains of what we’ve been taught to believe, it is this 'self' that we must learn to re-discover and embrace. SHE cries out for us to remember who we are beyond the societal constructs, beyond the weight of others and our limiting beliefs. That we are of the stars, spirits of the cosmos. SHE reminds us that we hold the wisdom and evolution through time in our scarred, beautiful, humble, feminine human hands.
The conscious mind, though dominant in our waking hours, is but a tiny fraction of the vast expanse of the total mind. The unconscious is a dense, rich landscape, a dominion where thoughts, feelings, and impulses converge in complex, often contradictory patterns. It is the repository of all that has been repressed, denied, or forgotten. Through the lens of psychoanalysis, the unconscious mind serves as the foundation of our beliefs, our actions, and our deepest fears. It speaks to us in symbols, dreams, and impulses that arise spontaneously, urging us to confront what we have buried, often without fully understanding why.
The recognition of the power and vastness of the unconscious mind can be overwhelming. Once we begin to acknowledge its presence, the carefully constructed illusion of control we have relied on begins to unravel. The rational, conscious mind, the 'I' that seeks to organise and make sense of the world around us, becomes but a secondary notion in the grand theatre of psyche. What we perceive as control is often a mere fantasy, a coping mechanism designed to shield us from the turbulent currents of unconscious' ever-moving tide.
Contemporary psychology reveals something to us that is profound, that emotion precedes thought. Our feelings are in fact the primal forces that surge through us, not 'rational thought' that follows only to justify and explains our feelings in relation to the world around us. Rather, they are the raw data, the first language of the unconscious mind, and the thoughts that follow serve only to justify and rationalise these emotional truths. This process reflects the work of Freud’s structural model, where the id (our primal desires and impulses) is filtered by the ego (our conscious self), attempting to align our instincts with the external world. But it is the unconscious, the id, that speaks first, long before the ego imposes its logical structures.
At night SHE speaks to me… of the beauty, abundance, and life that could be. SHE knows me intimately. SHE sees me, not just as I am, but as I could be. SHE believes in the 'me' that transcends the limitations I place on myself, the 'me' that lies hidden beneath layers of shame, guilt, and fear. In psychoanalytic terms, SHE represents the repressed aspects of my self, those desires and possibilities denied by the conscious mind, often due to societal conditioning. And 'SHE' is not to be ignored. SHE is the force that, if we allow it, can propel us toward the fullest expression of our true and magnificent selves.
Does SHE speak to you? And if SHE does are you listening? What and who is your divine unconscious self urging you to see and become? Does she beg you to see the version of yourself that you’ve only dared to dream of? Does she call out to you to see the potential of the woman within, one free from the confines of external judgment and internal limitation?
'And although her perfect words
were so often lost in the dark,
SHE still speaks to me of my love and my beauty,
From deep within the depths of my heart...'
In the sacred space of the heart, SHE whispers to us alone in the dark. SHE is our guiding light, our subconscious calling, to awaken us to all the love, beauty and limitless potential that reside within us. Through the process of self-discovery, we learn to understand her language, and decode her symbols and the messages she offers us. It is in this deep inner listening, from the parts of ourselves we’ve long denied, that we unlock an inner portal to profound healing, transformative growth, and the ultimate power of radical self-love.
